FIND A DOCTOR

  • The Cape Cod Health Care site provides information on health services for Cape Cod. You may find data on Physicians practicing their trade as follows:
    If you click on Cape MDs a memu "FIND A DOCTOR" will be displayed.The memu provides a number of choices:

    1. If you know the Doctor's name and all the information defined in the memu fill it in and then click the "SUBMIT" button to acquire the neccessary information.
    2. If you are not sure of a particular doctor or have difficultly spelling, using the memu "FIND A DOCTOR"; leave the first three items blank or fill in the information you know. The last three items (gender) fill in "M, F, or ANY" and click on the SUBMIT button. Scan down the list of each Doctor's link being displayed until you find the desired link and click on it. That physician's practise information will be displayed; such as phone number, street address and even a map showing directions to his place of practice.
    3. or click on Cape Cod Health Care then click on Physicians in the left margin memu; this will take you to the "FIND A DOCTOR" memu that was displayed for "Cape MDs" memu above, then follow the same steps 1 and 2.

STRENGTH TRAINING & FALL PREVENTION

  • STRENGTH TRAINING & FALL PREVENTION Beginner Strength Training: This is an introductory course that meets 2 times per week for one (1) hour sessions - Tuesday & Fridays - 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Content: this class teaches exercise and weight lifting basics, including how to monitor exertion, proper lifting techniques, and fall prevention skills. The program is designed to accommodate participants who are not physically fit, and those with special health concerns. Program Goal: to provide a safe and comprehensive introduction to exercise along with practical information on fall prevention. Participants have an opportunity to improve their strength and balance plus develop confidence in their physical abilities. Please call the Center to sign-up.





DEPRESSION

  • DEPRESSION - Not least among the many myths surrounding old age is the myth that depression is common to the aging process. Depression is a disease that can strike young and old; it is not a normal state of being and can and should be addressed with therapy and/or medication. Recognizing that the "golden years" may not be golden for many, yet there is every reason to believe that they can be. The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands, Inc. would like senior citizens to be aware that they are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to anyone who is feeling lonely or going through a crisis. They do not counsel or advise, just lend a friendly ear to people who need someone objective to talk to. Their service is free and completely confidential. Their numbers are 548-8900 (within Falmouth) and 1-800-893-9900 (outside Falmouth).





SENIOR CENTER COUNSELING

  • SENIOR CENTER COUNSELING - The later years of our life often bring changes that can be overwhelming and extremely stressful. These experiences can trigger feelings of sadness, anxiety, fear and depression. When we are not doing well emotionally, our physical health can also suffer. During these difficult times, talking to a professional can be very beneficial. Kathy Mohler-Faria, a Clinical Social Worker with Falmouth Human Services will volunteer here services at the Senior Center. Kathy has a Master's degree in Clinical Social Work and 14 years post-graduate experience in the counseling field. She will be available on Wednesday mornings from (8:30 to10:30) for personal counseling. For an appointment, please call 540-0196.





FREE MAMMOGRAMS & PAP TEST

  • FREE MAMMOGRAMS & PAP TEST for uninsured women. You may qualify if you are age 40 or older, have a symptom of concern, have no or little health insurance and meet income eligibility. BREAST CANCER SUPPORT GROUP

  • BREAST CANCER SUPPORT GROUP meets the lst & 3rd Tuesday of each month 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. @ the Women’s Health Resource Center (Basement Level), Faxon Wing of Falmouth Hospital. This is an open, on-going group of caring women who support those who are newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment or continuing through recovery of breast cancer. MINOR HOME REPAIR AND CHORE SERVICE PROGRAM

  • MINOR HOME REPAIR AND CHORE SERVICE PROGRAM - Our Outreach Program has developed Minor Home Repair and Chore Service Program for senior homeowners. It is designed to help seniors with very minor repairs and chores such as fixing a leaky faucet, hanging pictures, changing ceiling light bulbs, etc. The tasks must be related to the safety, health or security of the homeowner. Volunteers will perform the work. Seniors who need help with a small household repair or chore can call Kathy at 457-1484.





FULL BODY MASSAGE

  • FULL BODY MASSAGE - Dee Engley of Therapeutic Massage, will be offering full massage for ½ hour. The cost will be $20.00. The massage will take place at Dee’s office, which is at 230 Main Street in Falmouth. This Senior Citizen special is available Monday through Thursday. Please call Dee at 495-9911 to arrange for an appointment.





SEATED MASSAGE

  • SEATED MASSAGE - with Dee Engley moves to Tuesday. She will be available for 15 & 30 minutes sessions from 9:40 to 12:00 noon. Seated Massage is simple and fun. You sit in a specially designed chair. There are no oils and you are fully clothed. Usually the therapist works on the head, neck, shoulders, back arms and hands. It reduces muscle tension; calms the nervous system and leaves your relaxed and rejuvenated. If you wish to make an appointment, please call the Center to reserve a time. Cost of the massage is $10.00.





RESPITE CARE FOR THE CARE GIVERS

  • RESPITE CARE - The Senior Center Outreach Program is offering respite care to families with an elderly relative who cannot be alone when the caregiver has to be away from the home. A trained respite worker will sit with the family member while the care giver runs errands, goes to the doctor’s office or just needs time alone. This service will be provided at no cost for income eligible families. For more information call Kathy Barrett 457-1484.

  • MEDIVAN - A Medivan "Life Van" will meet Falmouth folks in front of the Ticket Office in Woods Hole at 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday or Wednesday. Transportation to Boston Area Hospitals and Medical Services are available by making reservations at 508-693-4633. There is a suggested donation of $25.00. The service begins the first of March on a space available basis.
