The first settlers in Rapho Township were Scot-Irish descent and settled in the southern portion of the Township. The first quarter of the eighteenth century sturdy Swiss and German pioneers came into the area of northern Lancaster County, the region has preeminently been agricultural. Truly, it may be said, that Rapho Township continues to be a rich farmland of northern Lancaster County and its primary industry still remains to be farming with a number of small communities to support the farming effort. The residence of the 1800th and early 1900th spoke a low form of the German dialect with sufficient English to chat with people that didn’t speak German.
